In typical Steve Job’s fashion, Apple’s launch of the iPad 2 was accompanied with much fan fare coupled with a slap in the face for third-party developers and accessory makers who’d been suckling at the iPad 1’s teat for the past year. Not only was the iPad 2’s form factor radically different to the iPad 1 making many existing products incompatible but Apple released the SmartCover, an excellent and innovative protection solution for the iPad 2. Not only did they have first-mover advantage but they’d also come out of the gate with an incredibly strong offering.

However, like all Apple products, there were numerous omissions and various problems that certain groups were vocal about – funky as SmartCovers may be they don’t provide the best level of protection for your precious new toy.

NVIDIA GTX 580 joins ASUS’s Republic of Gamers

ASUS’s ROG series of products aspire to please the demanding gamer, and the latest GTX 580 based graphics accelerator from its stable appears to be bred to do just that. ASUS has redesigned the PCB from ground-up and combined that with 19-phase ‘Super Alloy Power technology’ to expand the cards over-clocking abilities.  

This card gets 1.5 GB of VRAM clocked at 4.8GHZ (GDDR5) and the graphics engine is clocked at 816GHz. Keeping all of this under acceptable temperature is the DirectCU II thermal technology with sound-dampened dual fans and copper heat pipes that are in direct contact with the GPU. ASUS claims that all of these technologies combine to give 15% performance boost, 2.5X longer lifespan and 35°C cooler operation than the reference card design. The card is equipped with a color changing LED that reports GPU load in real-time, and a Safe Mode button that restores the card to its fail-safe setting. Bundled software includes TweakIt and ProbeIt to adjust and measure engine and memory clock speeds. Additionally, the Live Update software keeps the card updated with latest version of firmware and drivers. The card has two dual-link DVI inputs, HDCP complaint HDMI port and also a single DisplayPort.

The ASUS ROG Matrix GTX 580 is retailing for Rs. 32, 435, plus taxes and carries a three-year warranty. 

Upcoming Nokia 700 Zeta leaked

Apparently, another upcoming Nokia device has been spotted. This is Nokia’s latest smartphone known as Nokia 700 or Nokia Zeta which is a candybar handset from the Finnish manufacturer. It will include a new Symbian update known as Symbian Belle.

The phone would be one of the four Symbian Belle devices which would be launched in the market. Reports suggest that it would be powered by a 1GHz processor and will sport a 3.2-inch AMOLED display. It will also include a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and NFC capabilities.

The device may also be marketed as the thinnest Nokia smartphone. It will be available in black, white and a third color which is currently unknown.

Sony's upcoming S1 and S2 tablets make an appearance in Germany

German website Golem.de landed brief hands-on time with Sony’s upcoming S1 and S2 tablets. The devices provided by Sony for this session were apparently of the prototype variety, which means that there may be some hardware revisions before these devices hit retail. The S1 weighs about 900 grams and is reportedly comfortable to hold due to its folded-magazine like form factor. 

The clamshell designed S2 with dual 5.5 inch touch-screen display was also part of this preview, and Golem.de were courteous enough to post a 19 second video about it. According to these reports, both the S1 and S2 will come with PlayStation Suite access, similar to the Xperia Play.

The screen can display up to 1.07 billion colors and the bundled QuickFit Virtual Scale software gives real-size, overlay previews of documents in A4, letter and various photo sizes. The monitor’s PIP (Picture-in-Picture) capability could be the next best thing to working with dual-displays. PA246Q has input ports for HDMI, DVI, D-Sub and DisplayPort; along with two USB ports and even a 7-in-1 media card reader. You can bag this specialist display—which carries a 3-year warranty— in exchange for Rs. 31,000.

Everyone is going crazy to know a word about the iPhone 5 release date. From months, this non-existent device has already gained a lot of popularity through a large number of news, updates, and rumors about its release date.
